The Los Ausoles Geysers in Ahuachapan is one of the must see places in El Salvador. It is on the outskirts, around 5 kms away from the nearest town. Couples can take a bus from Parque General Francisco Menendez and then ask to get off in Los Ausoles. They are here because of the craters in the area. The Santa Teresa Park is a resort that allows you to try the largest Ausol in Central. There are a pool and trail of lagoons that are beautiful and well organized. Ruta de la Flores –
The Ruta de la Flores is a winding road of 20 miles that passes through colourful towns, coffee plantations and offers a glimpse of colonial architecture. There are 5 main towns on this route – Juayua, Salcoatitán, Apaneca, Nahuizalco and Ataco. Explore these villages and if you visit between October and February then colourful flowers decorate the roads. You can explore the nearby crater lakes, sample coffee and indigenous handicrafts. The villages on this route are some of the best weekend getaways in El Salvador for couples.
Juayua Food Festival –
If you are in the Ruta de la Flores region then check out the Juayua food festival. You can sample delicious dishes from the local cuisine like paella or grilled beef. If you are adventurous then there are some unconventional options as well such as frog, guinea pig and iguana.
Los Chorros de la Calera –
After eating your fill at the Juayua food festival, head to the Los Chorros de la Caldera. This place is known for its natural swimming pools and a waterfall. It is accessible by a remote road so take care of your safety. You can sit under the water and enjoy the spray to stay cool. This is one of the most romantic places in El Salvador. there are quite a few waterfalls in the country like the Tamanique waterfalls and the seven waterfalls and all of them are quite pretty.
Tazumal and Joya de Ceren –
One can find Mayan ruins all over Central and South America. The ruins in El Salvador are not crowded at all. Joya de Ceren is a well preserved Mayan village. It was abandoned in 640 Ad when the Laguna de Caldera erupted. The volcanic ash covered the town and perfectly preserved it from damage. Tazumal has a cluster of unusual pyramids. The tallest one is 75 feet high. There is a museum on-site that displays items excavated. These ruins are great of history buffs and one of the must see places in El Salvador.
Playa El Tunco –
One of the most romantic places in El Salvador, the 2 street beach town is quite popular with surfers. These black beaches are pebbly where you can relax or go surfing. Couples can just lounge on the beach or stroll around eth quaint little town. You can also see eth sea caves when the tide is low. You can catch the sunset on the beach and party at night. Many people visit here during weekends and it is packed.
Playa El Esteron –
This charming beach stretches out endlessly and doesn’t have quite black sand. The gentle surf and quiet beach can be a romantic getaway for you and your partner. It can be one of the most romantic places in El Salvador. Pack a picnic and spend some time lounging in the sun with your love.
Located on the northern side of San Salvador, the colonial city of Suchitoto is known for art and culture. It hosts a lot of food and art festivals all through the year.
