Couples can take a bus from Parque General Francisco Menendez and then ask to get off in Los Ausoles. They are here because of the craters in the area. The Santa Teresa Park is a resort that allows you to try the largest Ausol in Central. There are a pool and trail of lagoons that are beautiful and well organized. Ruta de la Flores –
The Ruta de la Flores is a winding road of 20 miles that passes through colourful towns, coffee plantations and offers a glimpse of colonial architecture. There are 5 main towns on this route – Juayua, Salcoatitán, Apaneca, Nahuizalco and Ataco. Explore these villages and if you visit between October and February then colourful flowers decorate the roads. You can explore the nearby crater lakes, sample coffee and indigenous handicrafts. The villages on this route are some of the best weekend getaways in El Salvador for couples.
Juayua Food Festival –
If you are in the Ruta de la Flores region then check out the Juayua food festival. You can sample delicious dishes from the local cuisine like paella or grilled beef. If you are adventurous then there are some unconventional options as well such as frog, guinea pig and iguana.
Los Chorros de la Calera –
After eating your fill at the Juayua food festival, head to the Los Chorros de la Caldera. This place is known for its natural swimming pools and a waterfall. It was abandoned in 640 Ad when the Laguna de Caldera erupted. The volcanic ash covered the town and perfectly preserved it from damage. Tazumal has a cluster of unusual pyramids. Playa El Esteron –
